Search underway for missing swimmer involved in possible shark attack

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A search is underway for a missing swimmer that was involved in a possible shark attack in Pacific Grove, California Sunday.

Search-and-rescue effort are currently taking place for that missing swimmer identified as a 55-year-old woman.

Reports of a possible shark attack came into the Pacific Grove Police Department (PGPD) after a witness told authorities they saw the incident from the shore.

The woman was swimming about 100-yards off of the furthest part of lovers point when the incident took place.

Lovers Point and surrounding beaches were closed due to the unconfirmed shark attack, as well as McAbee beach, and San Carlos Beach in Monterey.

U.C. Coast Guards, Monterey Fire Department, and the PGPD are all working together in the search-and-rescue.
