Lady Matadors dominate Northwest College 66-50

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Western College Matadors women's basketball team (6-7) delivered a wire-to-wire, dominant 66-50 victory over Northwest College on Wednesday night at The House in the Chapman Automotive Winter Classic. The Matadors led from start to finish, stifling the Trappers with relentless defense and explosive offense on their home court.

Chen Pan powered the Matadors with a career-high 23 points, connecting on 9 of her 15 field goals and knocking down 5 three-pointers. Mable Doumbia nearly recorded a quadruple-double, finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 steals in a sensational all-around effort.

Arizona Western set the tone early, racing out to a 15-8 advantage in the first quarter. Doumbia capped the opening frame with a jumper to establish momentum, while the Matadors' defense forced Northwest into tough shots and turnovers. The second quarter saw the Matadors extend their lead behind stifling play. With just 31 seconds left in the half, Carolina Cabrita buried a three-pointer to send the Matadors into halftime up 26-17.

After halftime, the Matadors erupted with a decisive third-quarter surge. Kimora Jenkins drilled a three-pointer to stretch the lead to 20 points at 49-29, helping Arizona Western outscore the Trappers 23-14 in the period. The Matadors continued to pour it on in the fourth, maintaining their edge on both ends and fending off any attempt at a comeback. Arizona Western finished the night with 10 three-pointers and a plus-eight margin on the glass.

Kimora Jenkins contributed 12 points, 5 assists and 3 steals, knocking down 4 shots from beyond the arc. Off the bench, Aline Mastelic provided efficient production with 10 points and 5 rebounds in just 17 minutes.

Arizona Western showcased a true team effort, racking up 20 assists on 27 made field goals, forcing 21 turnovers and recording 13 steals. The Matadors' bench outscored Northwest's reserves 13-2, and the squad controlled the boards with a 41-33 rebounding edge.
