Unseasonably warm and dry weather continues
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Unseasonably warm and dry conditions will continue across Yuma and Imperial counties through the rest of the week, with temperatures staying well above normal for mid-December.
High pressure remains in control of the region, keeping skies mostly clear and pushing daytime highs into the mid-70s to low 80s. That’s roughly 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year. Imperial County will likely see some of the warmest temperatures, especially in the western desert areas.
Little change is expected through Thursday, with dry weather and light winds continuing. Overnight conditions will remain mild, with limited cooling thanks to the persistent ridge overhead.
By Friday, temperatures could climb slightly higher as the ridge strengthens, with highs approaching the upper 70s to near 80 degrees in both counties. While a weak disturbance may briefly knock temperatures down over the weekend, overall conditions will remain warm and dry into early next week.
Looking ahead, a more noticeable weather change may arrive during the latter half of next week. Forecast models continue to show a Pacific storm system developing off the West Coast, which could bring increased cloud cover, cooler temperatures, and a chance for rain around Christmas Day or shortly after. Confidence is still low on exact timing and impacts, but it’s something forecasters are monitoring closely.
For now, residents in Yuma and Imperial counties can expect continued dry conditions, above-average temperatures, and mostly sunny skies heading into the holiday week.
