Warm, dry pattern continues with above-normal December temperatures
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Unseasonably warm and dry weather continues across the region this week, with temperatures well above normal for mid-December and little relief in sight.
Monday afternoon highs climbed into the upper 70s and low 80s, pushing close to record territory. Sunshine returned quickly after a few passing high clouds early in the day, allowing temperatures to rebound fast.
While a slight cooldown is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, highs will still remain about 10 to 15 degrees above average, generally topping out in the upper 70s.
The warming trend strengthens again late in the week. By Thursday and Friday, a rebuilding ridge of high pressure will push temperatures back toward the low 80s, especially during the afternoon hours. Overnight lows will stay mild as well, generally settling in the upper 40s to mid-50s.
Dry conditions dominate the forecast through the weekend. No rain is expected, skies will remain mostly clear, and winds will stay light, following typical daily patterns with occasional afternoon breezes. Relative humidity levels will be low during the afternoons, dipping into the teens and low 20s, before modest overnight recovery.
Looking ahead, warm and tranquil weather holds through at least Sunday. Long-range guidance does hint at a possible pattern shift closer to Christmas, which could eventually bring cooler temperatures and a change in conditions, but confidence remains low at this time.
For now, expect more sunshine, spring-like afternoons, and continued dry weather as December delivers another stretch of unusual warmth.
