Hollywood and political figures react to Rob Reiner’s death

(KYMA, NBC) - Hollywood and several political figures are sharing their reaction to the death of Rob Reiner.

Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found dead in their home Sunday with stab wounds, a source close to the family told NBC News.

Their son, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, was arrested in connection to his parents' death.

"He was subsequently booked for murder," said Chief Jim McDonnell with the Los Angeles Police Department, who confirmed the Reiners' identities.

In response to Reiner's death, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, along with the Hollywood Historic Trust, will place flowers on Reiner's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame later in the day.

Both organizations issued a joint statement saying:

"Rob Reiner's star will continue to shine as brightly as the stories he brought to the screen, noting that his work as a director and actor helped shape modern cinema and inspired generations of filmmakers and audiences alike...Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and fans during this difficult time."

Hollywood actors and filmmakers, along with several political figures, also shared their reaction to Reiner's death:

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing. All from his movies.

I interviewed Rob Reiner as one of the bonuses for the @criterion.bsky.social BluRay of SPINAL TAP. We talked for an hour about the movie and his career and then they shut off the cameras and we talked about movies for another hour. A delightful, unhurried genius.
