UPDATE (10:35 AM): Nick Reiner, the son of Rob Reiner, has been arrested in connection to the deaths of his parents.

The filmmaker and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their home Sunday with stab wounds, a source close to the family told NBC News.

Reiner, 32, has a long history with drug addiction, which began in his teens.

He told people in an interview in 2016 that he spent periods of weeks sleeping rough on the streets, and was in and out of rehab for addiction treatment that started when he was 15.

It was not immediately known if Reiner has legal representation.

In a press conference Monday, Chief Jim McDonnell with the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the victims were Rob and Michele Reiner as well as talked about their son's arrest.

"Through the night working with the coroner's office they were able to identify them definitively as Rob and Michelle Reiner. We have our robbery-homicide division handling the investigation. They worked throughout the night working on this case and were able to take into custody Nick Reiner a suspect in this case. He was subsequently booked for murder and is being held on $4 million bail. Pretty much, that's what I can share at this point. But again a very, very tragic incident."

The death of Rob Reiner has shocked Hollywood stars and his fans across the world.

He built a huge reputation through acting in, producing, and directing a string of hit movies in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the classic 1970s television series "All in the Family."

(NBC, KYMA) - Two bodies were found at the Los Angeles home of Rob Reiner Sunday afternoon.

According to a source close to the Reiner family, Reiner and his wife were found dead inside the residence from apparent stab wounds.

However, police have not confirmed their identities or what caused their deaths as they are waiting for reports from the Los Angeles Coroner's Office to determine that information.

"The Los Angeles Police Department is now conducting an investigation at this residence here on Chadbourne [Avenue] and that investigation will continue over the coming days," said Alan Hamilton, Chief of Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officials responded to the home shortly before 4:00 p.m. to respond to reports of two bodies found at the home.

Reiner is well known for his portrayal of Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom "All in the Family," winning two Emmy Awards as Archie Bunker's son-in-law.

He directed films such as "This is Spinal Tap," "Stand By Me," "The Princess Bride," "When Harry Met Sally," "Misery" and "A Few Good Men," which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.

Most recently, he appeared in four episodes of the Hulu TV show "The Bear" and in "Spinal Tap II: The End Continues," which he also directed.
