Bear in California spotted under a home

ALTADENA, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A homeowner in Altadena, California got the surprise of his life when a large bear made itself comfortable in the crawlspace of his home.

Footage captured by Ken Johnson shows the large black bear's sneaky movements.

It all started back in June when Johnson noticed things near the entrance to the crawlspace a bit out of place.

So, he installed a few cameras but didn't see a thing for months until recently. Now, Johnson's cameras have captured the bear coming and going at all hours of the day.. Successfully squeezing into the small crawlspace and wiggling its way back outside.

Johnson describes what happened when he approached the side of the house.

"I went around to put batteries in the camera and this huge growl comes from out from under the crawlspace and I just went running I was so scared. I mean it was the most amazing sound you've ever heard this huge roar like a lion with a hiss on top of it. I went back in and called the sheriff and they said to call not animal control but fish and game and wildlife they're on vacation until Monday."
