Illinois governor meets Pope Leo XIV in Rome

(NBC, KYMA) - Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-Ill.) met privately with Pope Leo XIV Wednesday morning in Rome, according to a post on the governor's social media.

The two held a private, 40 minute meeting, and reportedly discussed the Trump administration's immigration deportation campaign in Chicago.

Gov. Pritzker also extended an invitation for the pope to visit the Windy City.

The governor was accompanied by his wife, MK, and his Chief of Staff Anne Caprara, and reportedly brought a number of gifts for Pope Leo, including beer.

He also gifted the pope a piece of art from an incarnated woman at Logan Correctional Facility, a book from the Lincoln Presidential Museum and a book on the Illinois governor's mansion.
