San Luis border expansion delayed due to budget constraints

KYMA

SAN LUIS, Mexico (KYMA) - The San Luis, Mexico city council met Monday to address on going delays with construction at the San Luis, Mexico border crossing.

The expansion of the Mexican border crossing still lacks a start date.

Work on the U.S. side is well advanced and will be completed next year, but in Mexico, the project cannot begin due to budget constraints.

There has been no progress despite the project being under development since 2018.

“What's striking is that we can already see the 2026 federal budget. We analyzed it and realized that there's no budget allocated for this project," said Rebecca Ching, Council of san luis mexico

Long wait times will continue on the Mexican side, and there will be disruptions to trade, tourism and the daily mobility of border residents.
