Smithsonian Museums reopen in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON (CBS, KYMA) - Smithsonian Museums started to reopen in Washington, D.C. as Visitors lined up before the reopening of the National Air and Space Museum Friday morning.

The Smithsonian museums, which are free to visit, had closed in the days shortly after the shutdown began.

However, The Smithsonian did not close the day the shutdown began as they were able to use some prior year funding to remain open for a few days.

Other museums reopening Friday: National Museum of American History, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.

The Smithsonian announced the following museums will reopen Saturday: National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Museum of African Art, the National Museum of Asian Art, the National Museum of Natural History, and the National Zoo. Some museums may have limited service options.

All museums, research centers and public buildings should be fully reopen by Monday, November 17.
