Houston Zoo celebrates Dia de los Muertos and debuts rare baby okapi

HOUSTON (CBS, KYMA) - The Houston Zoo is having a special time this week, celebrating its first Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and debuting a rare baby okapi at the same time.

In a press release, the Texas zoo said that it is "honoring life and legacy" with a double celebration, which will take place over the weekend.

The zoo will have an altar typical of Dia de los Muertos, on which guests are invited to place a photo of a cherished deceased animal.

During the celebrations, guests will also be able to see the new baby okapi, who was born on September 8. Its name hasn't been chosen yet, the zoo said.

Footage captured shows a group of women dressed up in costumes for Day of the Dead, as well as the baby okapi frolicking and hanging around its mom.
