Motorcycle pursuit after deputy shooting in California ends in crash

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A high-speed pursuit involving a motorcyclist has ended with a serious crash on a California freeway.

Police say the motorcyclist was being pursued in connection to the shooting of a San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy at a residence in the Rancho Cucamonga area.

According to authorities, as deputies responded to a domestic violence call, they were fired upon and one deputy, identified as Andrew Nunez, was shot and killed.

The suspect fled the property on a motorcycle and that's when the pursuit ensued on the 210 freeway, with the motorcycle reaching speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

The motorcyclist eventually struck the side of another vehicle and was thrown from the bike.

He was taken into custody and airlifted to the hospital with injuries. Officials said the suspect is in stable condition and criminal charges are pending.

Nunez is survived by his pregnant wife and two-year-old daughter.
