Yuma Catholic sweeps Tonopah in straight sets

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The 10th-ranked Yuma Catholic Shamrocks continued their dominant run Monday night, sweeping Tonopah Valley in straight sets (25-11, 25-18, 25-13) in their final home conference match of the regular season.

The Shamrocks, who also sit second in their 3A region, controlled the tempo from the opening serve. In the second set, Natalie Lawsheth set up Paige Pikula for a clean finish to extend the lead, followed by senior captain Annie Scarborough making her presence known with a big block at the net to secure the 25-18 win.

In the final set, Gwen Thrower delivered a powerful kill to push the Shamrocks closer to the sweep before Scarborough sealed the match with another strong finish off a set from Lawsheth.

After the match, Scarborough credited her team's chemistry and discipline for their success.

"I've played with these girls for so long our chemistry is like no other," she said. "We practice harder than anyone, play with motivation, and always have God by our side."

The Shamrocks advance to 25-3 on the season and will close out the regular season Wednesday against Chino Valley before turning their focus to postseason play.
