Severe thunderstorms tear through Louisiana suburbs

WESTWEGO, La. (CBS, KYMA) - "Numerous" rotating storms hit the New Orleans area on Sunday morning, spurring tornado warnings, the National Weather Service said.

The weather service had had confirmed at least two tornadoes in the area, one in Gautier and another in nearby Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Footage taken by @Tylerw1231_WX shows wind-driven rain and lightning hitting Westwego, a suburb of New Orleans, early Sunday morning.

"This severe thunderstorm just passed here in Westwego, LA. This was filmed safely as it passed us, stay safe," he wrote in a post on X.

A severe thunderstorm warning had advised the Westwego area of 60 mph wind gusts and possible pea-sized hail.
