Cibola’s Caius Lastra and Kofa’s Sabrina Anaya show out at Cross Country District Championship

Lastra and Anaya helped the Raiders and Kings to respective team championships

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Cibola's Caius Lastra and Kofa's Sabrina Anaya led their respective Cross Country teams to District Championships at West Wetlands Park Wednesday afternoon.

Lastra jumped to an early lead in the boys race and never looked back, marking the second year in a row he won the event.

The senior finished with a blazing 16:24 time, but that wasn't fast enough for him. Lastra wanted to break the 15:54 course record.

Regardless, he was happy with his finish and the support he received.

"It feels amazing, and it feels even better that I get to see my former teammates come out here, support me and watch," Lastra said.

For Anaya, it was her first time winning the District Championship after a second place finish last year.

She nearly shaved off one-minute-and-thirty seconds from last years time, running a speedy
19:42 5K in this year's victory.

"I finally hit the 19s, so I'm hoping to just keep PR-ing from there," Anaya said. "My mindset was just getting first, and my mind was like to go out strong and lead, and that's what I did."

Both runners paved the way for their respective schools to win the team District Championship trophy. The new hardware will be a traveling trophy and stay at Cibola and Kofa until next years District Championship.
