CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Fallen trees block traffic as tornado hits France

(CBS, KYMA) - A motorist felt the full force of a tornado that hit the Val d'Oise department of France, just north of Paris, Monday.

One person was confirmed dead, while four individuals were in a state of "absolute emergency" and five in a state of "relative emergency."

The tornado left a trail of destruction in Ermont, damaging infrastructure and vehicles, and leaving roads scattered with uprooted trees and broken branches. Three cranes were toppled, according to videos circulating online.

Footage captured by X user @Mr_Jeekeyz shows the A115 motorway, with branches and leaves blocking traffic.

"I took the full force of the tornado," the source wrote in a post to X. They told Storyful their work van was smashed by the crown of a tree that had snapped off.

About 150 firefighters, emergency personnel, and police officers were deployed to affected zones to assist residents and clear roadways, the prefect said, as the fire department had recorded more than 700 calls as of 11:15 p.m. local time.
