Arizona rescuers airlift driver out of floodwaters

MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. (CBS, KYMA) - Flash floods inundated Arizona roads Sunday, submerging cars and leaving multiple people stranded.

Footage shows rescuers with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office airlifting a driver, who had been marooned by floodwaters, via helicopter.

Heavy rains had swept their vehicle downstream, the post from the Goodyear Fire Department said.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), parts of the greater Phoenix area had received more than four inches of rain over three days as of Sunday afternoon.

The NWS issued a flood warning for south-central Arizona, which went into effect until 8:00 p.m. Monday.
