Police officer in Texas filmed punching teen

AUSTIN, Texas (CBS, KYMA) - An officer from the Austin Police Department (APD) was filmed repeatedly punching a teenager in downtown Austin Friday.

According to CBS, the officer, identified as Officer Leger, claimed to have been attacked by 19-year-old Johnny Acuna-Jacobo while breaking up an altercation during a patrol, and acted to "regain control."

Acuna-Jacobo denied the claim and was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer.

Leger was placed on restricted duty and removed from patrol while the department investigated the incident, KVUE reported, citing Austin Police Department Chief Lisa Davis.

Video filmed by Ryan Ancira shows the officer hitting the teen while surrounded by a crowd.

Storyful contacted the APD for a statement on the incident.
