Two dead in plane crash in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas (CBS, KYMA) - Two people died after an aircraft crashed near Hicks Airfield in Fort Worth, Texas Sunday, hitting and setting fire to semi-trucks, according to news reports citing officials.

The Fort Worth Fire Department said, "The plane hit 18-wheelers and trailers, igniting a fire," which was now under control, CBS reported.

Footage captured by Tammy Gerrits shows dark plumes of smoke rising from the crash scene. She told Storyful she captured the footage from a nearby parking lot about three minutes after the incident.

"We have a vehicle stored at the lot next door," Gerrits said. "The fire was just starting to take off when I was videoing it. First responders were just arriving."

"We heard a small explosion (maybe a tire?) after I took the video so we decided it was best to leave as there was a lot of vehicles around that area."

The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office reported road closures in the area just before 2:15 p.m. Central due to a crash. The roadways were reopened shortly before 4:00 p.m. Central.
