Calipatria dominates Somerton 48-3

CALIPATRIA, Calif. (KYMA) - The Calipatria Hornets continued their midseason surge Thursday night, powering past the Somerton Toros with a dominant 48-3 victory to notch their third straight win and improve to 4-2 on the season.

The Hornets wasted no time getting on the board, marching down the field on their opening drive before Rhiann Potter punched it in for six. Calipat added the two-point conversion to go up 8-0 early.

Somerton showed flashes of fight in the first quarter when running back Jose Polino broke free for a long run deep into Hornet territory, slipping through defenders and setting the Toros up inside the five-yard line.

Kicker Diego Felix then delivered a clean 25-yard field goal through the rain to give Somerton its first and only points of the night.

From there, it was all Calipatria. Quarterback Daniel Alcala connected with Sebastian Lopez on a 40-yard strike toward the pylon to make it 14-3, and Potter continued to pile on the scores with another touchdown before halftime.

The Hornets' offense kept its rhythm in the second half, scoring at will while the defense held firm against the winless Toros.

Calipatria now turns its attention to Palo Verde next week as they look to extend their win streak to four. Somerton, still searching for its first win of the season, drops to 0–7.
