Warm conditions persist active weather set to arrive

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - It's another warm and mostly sunny day across the Desert Southwest, but changes are on the horizon for Yuma and Imperial Counties.

After a stretch of dry weather, a major shift is coming that could bring our first widespread rain event of the fall.

Temperatures Wednesday are expected to run slightly above normal, with highs in the mid to upper 90s across both counties.

The National Weather Service says rainfall could become heavy at times, with some areas potentially seeing over two inches of rain by the weekend. That much precipitation could lead to flooding in low-lying areas and along washes.

Friday and Saturday are expected to be the wettest days, with widespread rainfall likely across the region. Temperatures will also take a noticeable dip highs will fall into the 80s by Saturday and remain below normal through early next week.

Forecasters say this storm system will bring much-needed moisture to the region, but it will also test the area’s drainage systems and dry soils.

So for now, enjoy Wednesday's warmth because by Thursday, umbrellas might be the best accessory in Yuma and Imperial.
