October 7 is National Taco Day

(CBS, KYMA) - This week's Taco Tuesday is extra special as Tuesday, October 7 is National Taco Day.

The day honors the delicious and versatile taco. From a warm soft corn-tortilla to a hard crunchy shell, tacos make for a fun quick snack or full meal.

While tacos have been around for a long time, the holiday began in the 1960s in San Antonio, and it used to be celebrated on October 4.

However, in 2009, it was officially moved to the first Tuesday in October.

You can celebrate by supporting your local Mexican restaurants, stepping into the kitchen and making your own tacos, or by using the hashtag #NationalTacoDay or #TacoTuesday on social media.

In addition, Taco Bell, Del Taco and others are celebrating with taco specials.
