MONTGOMERY, Ala. (NBC, KYMA) - A mass shooting in downtown Montgomery, Alabama left two people dead and a dozen others injured.
Police said it happened at around 11:30 p.m. Eastern when two groups opened fire on each other in the middle of a crowd.
A total of 14 people were shot. Two of those victims died and the rest were injured. Police said of the injured, three people are in life-threatening condition.
"Thousands of people have been in the city this weekend, and it only took one or two to change the entire outcome...from the state fair to other events that we had going on around the city," said Steven Reed, Mayor of Montgomery.
So far, no arrests have been made, but some individuals are being interviewed.
"The people who did what they did, who are responsible for opening fire on each other like that, did not care about the people around them when they did it. And now we have 14 people who have been shot, two of them, like I stated earlier, deceased. We will not rest until we get you," said Chief James Graboys with the Montgomery Police Department.
An investigation is ongoing.
