Condor receives treatment for wing fracture at Oakland Zoo

OAKLAND, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - A critically endangered California condor with an injured wing received veterinary care at the Oakland Zoo and is "healing well," the zoo said.

The bird, known as C0 in the Northern California Condor Restoration Program (NCCRP), was taken to the zoo's Condor Recovery Center. Footage then show C0 flying in short bursts in a pen.

The Oakland Zoo posted on X saying the staff at the NCCRP noticed swelling in the bird's wing this summer.

"Fortunately, it was determined at Oakland Zoo that Condor C0 had just a small fracture, and is healing well," they said.

Condors have the greatest wingspan of any bird in continental North America.

They were driven to the brink of extinction a century ago, and were only reintroduced to the wild in 1992 following a successful breeding program, according to the Oregon Zoo.
