Happy Track MX park reopens under new ownership, set for grand opening

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The sound of dirt bikes is roaring back to life in Yuma.

Happy Track MX Park, located off County 13th Street, is reopening this week under new ownership. Local riders Bobby Lee and Jerren Ostberg are behind the effort to revive the long-quiet motocross park, with a vision that extends beyond racing.

"It's just what we do. We're a family of motocross, off-road...anything with dirt and a motor, we're in it," Lee said. "Why we did it is simple…it's our life."

That passion quickly turned into action. In their first week, Lee and Ostberg put in nearly 90 hours shaping jumps, hauling fresh dirt, and preparing the track for riders. What started as two friends with a dream soon grew into a community project.

"It takes the whole tribe, you know what I mean, the whole community," Ostberg said. "So we appreciate everybody in the community that stepped up and came out and did what they can do."

Friends, family, and even local work crews pitched in to help restore the track. Lee recalled being shocked at the generosity.

"We were looking around to buy dirt and I'm like, 'Dude, it's so expensive,'" Lee said. "Then, one of their trucks rolled by and they asked, 'How much do you need? Do you guys want to rebuild the whole track?' And I thought, that's gonna be a lot of money. But they just said, 'Tell us when to stop.'"

For the two owners, the mission is bigger than a single weekend. They hope Happy Track MX Park can grow into a destination that attracts talent from across Arizona and beyond.

"We want to draw people from the entire United States and across the world," Lee said. "People may go, 'You're crazy, that'll never happen.' But that's our dream."

The park will celebrate its grand opening Friday, welcoming riders of all ages and skill levels. Lee and Ostberg say it's just the start of something much bigger, a chance to build a community around the sport they've loved their whole lives.
