Gila Ridge girls and boys golf teams shine in local matchups
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) -Â The Gila Ridge Hawks put together a strong showing on the golf course today, with both the girls and boys teams leading the way against San Luis and Cibola.
On the girls' side, sophomore Jayden Waymire paced the Hawks with a 48 (+12), just edging out her sister, senior Peyton Waymire, who carded a 49 (+13).
Senior Lauren Sullivan followed with a 54 (+18), while sophomore Olivia Edwards rounded out the top four with a 57 (+21). Senior Addison Curtis also contributed a 69 (+33).
For San Luis, senior Ciara Carrasco led the Sidewinders with a 64 (+28). Teammates Seneca Antonio (73, +37), Kamilah Casillas (74, +38), and freshman Carla Barron (78, +42) completed their scoring lineup.
The Hawks came away with a team score of 208 (+64), while San Luis finished at +145.
On the boys' side, senior Trent Karvoski set the pace for Gila Ridge, firing a 38 (+2). He was followed closely by Trent Caudle (39, +3), Jakub Lane Kallinger (40, +4), and sophomores Grady Ebert and Trevor Campbell, who both carded 42s (+6).
Senior Gavin Schreiber added a 43 (+7) to help secure the team effort.
For Cibola, sophomore Ismael Ramirez led the Raiders with a 49 (+13), with Mason Porter (51, +15), Alanni Garcia (52, +16), Samuel Runyan (53, +17), and Kyler Wright (55, +19) rounding out their lineup. San Luis was led by sophomore Erick Fimbres, who posted a 52 (+16).
Gila Ridge's boys took the win with a team score of 159 (+15). Cibola finished at 205 (+61), while San Luis ended at +118.
The Hawks' balance on both the boys and girls sides showed why they continue to be one of the strongest golf programs in the region.
