ChatGPT rolling out AI companion app for teens

(KYMA, CBS) - ChatGPT announced a teen version of its app.

A big change for the app includes an age-prediction system to keep individuals under 18 out of the standard version.

Parental controls with "blackout hours" enforcement is also included.

Mental health experts say AI can effect young people who use it.

"One of the things I tell parents to look out for is if you're noticing your child is being more socially withdrawn and spending less time with their friends than before. Another thing is it could show up in schools like their grades are dropping and sometimes also if they're appearing more shutdown and with A.I.," said Dr. Marlynn Wei, Psychiatrist and AI Mental Health Consultant.

Experts say to have an open conversation with your child about the usage of AI.
