Zac Gallen joins elite company as Diamondback

KYMA

Gallen threw his 1,000th strikeout as a D-back Monday night, joining Randy Johnson and Brandon Webb as the only other Arizona ballplayers to hit the mark

PHOENIX (KYMA) - Zac Gallen threw his 1,000th strikeout as a Snake Monday Night in an 8-1 win against the New York Mets.

Gallen joins elite company alongside pitchers Randy Johnson and Brandon Webb.

Coming into Monday night's contest, Gallen was one strikeout away from the 1,000 mark, but he didn't know he was that close.

Arizona's Manager Torey Lovullo congratulated him after he reached the millennial milestone after the first inning, and Gallen was confused why he was being congratulated. He eventually was able to soak in the accomplishment after his start.

Over Gallen's six inning start, he allowed one run in an 8-1 route of division rival San Francisco.

He finished with six strikeouts, and has 1,005 as a D-back and a little under 1050 in his career.
