Hot temps return, storm chances on the way
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma and Imperial Counties are starting the week on the hot side, with highs expected to reach around 105 degrees Tuesday afternoon about five degrees above normal for mid-September.
The National Weather Service says localized Moderate Heat Risk will continue through Wednesday.
Changes arrive midweek as moisture from the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Mario begins to move north. That will bring a better chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially Wednesday afternoon and Thursday.
The most likely areas to see rain will be across Imperial County and into Yuma, with some storms capable of producing brief heavy downpours.
By Thursday and Friday, scattered showers and isolated storms are possible across both counties, with rain chances around 40–60%.
Forecast rainfall amounts aren't huge, but parts of western Yuma and Imperial County could see up to half an inch, with higher totals possible over elevated terrain.
Temperatures will drop with the increase in clouds and moisture, with highs dipping into the mid-90s by Thursday and Friday.
Conditions dry out gradually over the weekend, and highs will climb back toward 100 degrees by Sunday and could reach 105 again early next week.
