Shelf cloud stretches across sky in South Florida

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. (CBS, KYMA) - An impressive shelf cloud stretched over South Florida as the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast a high chance of showers and storms with heavy downpours Thursday.

Video captured by Florida resident David Vergel shows the cloud looming over Sunny Isles Beach, about 18 miles north of Miami.

"Afternoon shelf cloud," he wrote in a post on X.

The NWS forecast heavy rain and possible urban flooding in South Florida through Saturday.
