Dog rescued from California Aqueduct

PHELAN, Calif. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A dog was rescued from the California Aqueduct in Phelan, California Thursday.

According to San Bernardino County Fire, the dog was seen by a helicopter with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Aviation team Thursday evening.

The sheriff's office then notified the fire department, who dispatched a search and rescue unit, a water rescue unit, a medic ambulance and a battalion chief, according to the fire department.

"Crews quickly assessed the situation and recognized the urgency, as the swift current of the aqueduct posed an immediate threat to the animal's safety," the department wrote on X.

San Bernardino County Fire said a rescuer was lowered down to put a harness on the dog so that crews could raise it out of the aqueduct.

"Thanks to the coordinated efforts, training, and quick action of all personnel involved, the dog was successfully rescued without injury," the fire department wrote.

Footage posted by San Bernardino County Fire shows the rescue.
