Heat Wave persists with warning now extended to Saturday

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The desert heat isn't letting up anytime soon.

Both Yuma County and Imperial County remain under an Extreme Heat Warning as temperatures stay well above normal through the weekend. Highs are expected to reach 110–114 degrees, with overnight lows only dipping into the upper 80s offering little relief from the heat.

The National Weather Service warns of a major to locally extreme heat risk, urging residents to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

At the same time, the weather pattern is shifting. Moisture from the monsoon is expected to spread westward, bringing better chances for showers and thunderstorms into southwest Arizona and southeast California by this weekend.

Any storms that develop could produce strong, gusty outflow winds and areas of blowing dust.

Looking ahead, the ridge of high pressure responsible for the heat is expected to weaken early next week. That will help daytime highs drop closer to normal, with temperatures sliding into the upper 90s to low 100s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

For now, the combination of triple-digit heat and storm potential remains the big weather story across Yuma and Imperial counties.
