Southern border wall to be painted black
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) plans to paint the steel wall along the southern border black.
Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday that President Donald Trump made the request for it to be painted. She said it's an effort to make the wall too hot to climb during warm weather.
U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks added that the black paint will also prevent rust on the wall.
Noem didn't say how much it would cost to paint.
$46.5 billion in President Trump's recently-passed sweeping agenda bill is dedicated for border barrier system improvements.
This includes completing construction on 700 miles of primary wall, and adding advanced technology such as cameras and sensors.
