UPDATE (12:00 PM): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the White House Monday to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and discuss a path for ending the war with Russia.

The leaders of Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Finland, the European Union and NATO were also in Washington in solidarity with Ukraine and also to push for strong security guarantees in any post-war settlement.

"We're going to work with Ukraine. We're going to work with everybody, and we're going to make sure that if there's peace, the peace is going to stay long term. This is very long term. We're not talking about a two year peace and then we end up in this mess again. We're going to make sure that everything is good. We'll work with Russia. We're going to work with Ukraine. We're going to make sure it works. And I think if we can get to peace, it's going to work. I have no doubt about it."

President Donald Trump

"We need to stop this war, to stop Russia, and we need support, American and European partners, we will do our best for this, so...and I think we will show that we are strong people, and we supported the idea of the United States, of personally President Trump to stop this war, to make diplomatic way of finishing this war, and we are ready for trilateral as President said, this is a good signal about trilateral. I think this is very good."

Monday's showing is a sign both of the progress and the possible distress coming out of the Friday's summit between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as Europe's leaders descended on Washington with the explicit goal of protecting Ukraine's interests, a rare and sweeping show of diplomatic force.

Trump is pressing for a quick end to Europe's deadliest war in 80 years, and Kyiv and its allies worry he could seek to force an agreement on Russia's terms after the president rolled out the red carpet for Putin in Alaska three days ago. Zelenskyy was not invited to the meeting.

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Following Friday's summit in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Donald Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Monday as the Trump Administration pushes for peace between the two countries.

In a sign of solidarity, Zelenskyy will be joined by European leaders, seeking an end to the Russian assault that protects Ukraines interests and future security.

Zelenskyy is also hoping for a much better outcome than his last Oval Office visit back in February when the White House said Zelenskky was asked to leave after the heated meeting with President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

President Trump posted to social media overnight saying, "Never had so many European leaders at one time. My great honor to host them!!!"

However, Zelenskyy cautioned against past moves giving up Ukrainian territory which he said, "Putin simply used it as a springboard for a new attack."

Putin, fresh off his Friday summit in Alaska with Trump, is demanding to keep the roughly 20% of Ukraine which Russia now occupies.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying the U.S. is not pressing for it.

"If there's going to be a peace deal, it's not going to look like that," Secretary Rubio said while defending the administration's push for a broader peace deal over the ceasefire Ukraine and Europe want first, but Russia denied.

Trump had said there would be severe consequences if Putin said no, with Rubio now saying imposing more sanctions imperils negotiations.

"The minute he takes those steps, all talks stop," Rubio added.

Democrats slammed the approach as well as Putin's red carpet treatment in Alaska.

"Putin walks away with his photo op with zero commitments made and zero consequences. What a great day for Russia," said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT).

Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said Russia did agree to strengthened security guarantees for Ukraine from the U.S. and Europe.

A lot is on the line when Ukraine gets its seat at the table Monday.

Trump also posted to social media overnight saying Zelenskyy could end the war almost immediately while appearing to refer to more of Putin's demands to stop the Russian assault.

In addition, the president said there's no getting back Crimea, ceded more than a decade ago, and no to Ukraine joining NATO.
