USPS to release forever stamp honoring Jimmy Carter
(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will soon release a new forever stamp honoring former President Jimmy Carter.
Carter died last December at 100-years-old.
The stamp will be available beginning October 1, on the 101st anniversary of Carter's birth.
USPS said, "It's difficult to consider a more fitting honoree than former President Jimmy Carter," and that, "Jimmy Carter truly personified the best in America."
According to a statement posted on the USPS website, Carter made "humility, reconciliation and frugality recurring themes in his presidency."
In the days after his presidency, Carter became a prominent activist for peace, human rights and social and economic progress around the world.
The forever stamp will feature a 1982 oil-on-linen painting created by artist Herbert E. Abrams. Ethel Kessler, an art director for USPS, designed the stamp.
The stamp will be available at post offices and at USPS.com.
