California residents participate in ‘Fight the Trump Takeover’ protest
TRACY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - "Fight the Trump Takeover" events took place across the nation Saturday, including in Tracy, California.
With signs held high and voices loud, dozens stood together in Tracy.
"This country is so important to me, and it's so important to all of us. And we are all seeing it being degraded through authoritarian tactics," said Jenny Wood, an organizer with Indivisible Tracy, a local chapter of a nationwide organization. "It feels so empowering. It feels so much like we're working together as a community."
She says specifically, they're concerned about the potential redrawing of district maps across the country which they believe could sway future elections, and about military deployments to U.S. cities like Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles.
"I'm here with my husband's burial flag. It's in an anarchy state right now because the distress of our country and the distress of our flag...our servicemen took an oath to the Constitution, and our president is using those servicemen to invade cities in our in our country, and we're protesting that," said Cindy Garza with Indivisible Tracy.
Wood says she hopes passersby see them and feel empowered to speak up about their own beliefs and feel called to action.
"We're hoping that they recognize that there are people who believe the same as they do, that they can have courage to speak up themselves so that they might join us or another group and help join the resistance to save our country," Wood expressed.
