New climate report shows record heat and rising seas

(KYMA, KECY/CBS) - A new "State of the Climate" report from the American Meteorological Society highlights alarming trends for the planet.

In 2024, global temperatures, greenhouse gas levels, and ocean heat all reached record highs.

The report shows oceans and seas absorbing much of the heat, with 100 marine heatwave days recorded last year and only nine cold spell days, the lowest ever.

Scientists warn that even small increases in global temperature add up over decades, with serious consequences for the environment.

Temperatures around the world hit new highs, glaciers continue to melt, and extreme weather events are increasing.

In the U.S. alone, 27 disasters caused more than a billion dollars each in damage. 2024 was also the third wettest year on record for the country.
