Latest on the shooting outside CDC headquarters in Atlanta
(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Investigators are getting a clearer picture of the man who opened fire outside the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Headquarters in Atlanta Friday, killing a police officer.
A neighbor tells NBC News the suspected shooter, identified as Patrick Joseph White, had expressed anti-vaccine sentiments to her, and White believed the COVID-19 vaccine made him sick.
A law enforcement official spoke with the Associated Press, saying White blamed the COVID-19 vaccine for making him depressed and suicidal.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, says White tried to get into the CDC's headquarters, but was stopped by guards before driving to a pharmacy across the street and opening fire.
Authorities haven't said yet whether White was killed by police or took his own life.
33-year-old Dekalb County Police Officer David Rose was killed while responding to the shooting, and leaves behind a pregnant wife and two children.
