Extreme heat holds on but some relief coming

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The extreme heat isn't over yet in Yuma and Imperial Counties. Temperatures are running about ten degrees above normal, with highs near 114–117 degrees close to record-breaking.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Friday evening, and conditions remain dangerous with major to extreme heat risk.

Humidity is starting to rise too, with dew points in the 60s and 70s, making it feel even hotter. Some morning clouds or light showers are possible, but most rain will stay in higher elevations east of the area.

The good news? Slight cooling is expected this weekend. Highs could drop a couple degrees, lowering the heat risk to more moderate levels.

Next week, a weather system may help dry out the region, keeping temps in the 107–113°F range. Forecasters are also watching for monsoon moisture to possibly return late next week, but that's still uncertain.

Stay cool, stay safe, and limit outdoor activity during peak heat.
