Nike RBI D-Backs remain undefeated in pool play
The Nike RBI D-Backs finished pool play with a perfect 3-0 record after beating Puerto Rico
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Nike RBI D-Backs went 3-0 in pool play in the RBI World Series Tournament in Vero Beach, Florida after beating Puerto Rico 3-1 in a nail biter that came down to the wire.
Arizona was lights out on the mound for the majority of the game, but Puerto Rico was in striking distance down to their final out. With a man on first and third, the batter ripped a ball down the third base line, but Eli Lujan from Yuma High made an exceptional play, fielding the ball and gunning it to first to save at least one run from scoring.
Coach James Kuzniak gave credit to Lujan for the exceptional play, but he also made a point to KYMA's Sports Team that the sense of community between all the teams is massive.
"You realize they're all kids and they're all baseball players and we all have the same goal," Kuzniak said. "You know, we want to win, but it's really cool getting to know the guys from the other teams and eating with them in the cafeteria and just walking around the campus here."
The experience for Kuzniak and the rest of the Nike RBI D-Backs has been incredible.
The squad will suit up tomorrow for the semifinals.
