Marine Veteran hailed as a hero for stopping stabbing suspect at Walmart in Michigan
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - In Traverse City, Michigan, a Marine Veteran is being hailed as a hero after he and other bystanders stepped up to help bring a dangerous situation to a close at a Walmart.
Derrick Perry says he was doing some shopping when he heard that a man was attacking people with a knife.
During the chaos, Perry says he pulled out his gun and shouted for the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Bradford Gille, to drop the knife. Perry says he didn't have to fire his weapon because others helped to subdue the man.
Looking back, Perry says he "just wanted everyone to be safe."
"I just feel that I was I was put there for a reason at that moment to be there to help. Everything was just so surreal because it's I as I looked over my pistol…and looking at his eyes, I can see that he was he didn't seem like he was aware of all the things that were happening. He was just very wild eyed and, just not there," Perry expressed.
Officials say close to a dozen people were hurt during the incident.
Gille was arrested and arraigned on one count of felony terrorism and eleven counts of assault with intent to murder.
