Suspect in NYC shooting has ties to Southern California
LOS ANGELES (CNN, KYMA/KECY) - The suspected shooting who police say killed four people inside a New York City office building Monday has ties to Southern California.
The 27-year-old gunman, identified as Shane Tamura, played football while attending Granada Hills Charter School in Los Angeles County.
Those who knew Tamura, when he was a young athlete, say they never saw any signs of any problems and that all he was focused on was football.
"He just talked to us about like making good decisions and knowing that you represent your last name, your family...also represent the organization you play for," said Abraxas Scott, a student. "That will be a part of like how people see us, but also I feel like the play on the field should make us represent who we are better."
"I was shocked. It it was a little shocking. I was also, I actually was scared to practice too. It just shows how small the world is to me and, you know, it could be the people around you, you never know. It could be people that you're best friends with, it could be your family. You never know," said Zachary Longoria, another student.
The motive for the deadly shooting is currently under investigation.
