Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein accomplice, urges SCOTUS to overturn her conviction
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - The attorneys for Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, is urging the Supreme Court to take up her pending appeal and overturn her sex-trafficking conviction.
Maxwell's attorneys claim she was covered by an agreement Epstein made with federal authorities to plead guilty that shielded her from prosecution.
The case was originally filed with the Supreme Court in April.
In a new brief, Maxwell's attorneys told the justices, "This case is about what the government promised."
Maxwell recently met with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche for questioning amid a political firestorm over the Trump Administration's handling of the Epstein files.
Those talks were not mentioned in Monday's filing.
In 2022, Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for carrying out a years-long scheme with Epstein to groom and sexually abuse underage girls.
The Supreme Court will likely decide this fall whether to grant the case.
