Arizona woman sentenced in North Korea tech-worker scheme
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - A woman in Arizona has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for a complex international tech scheme.
According to the Department of Justice, Christina Chapman operated a laptop farm from her home.
Chapman helped North Korean cyber workers pose as Americans to get remote IT jobs at hundreds of U.S. companies.
The plot involved using stolen American identities, and the scheme generated more than $17 millions in revenue.
During a search of her home in 2023, investigators found more than 90 laptops.
Chapman pleaded guilty earlier this year. The 50-year-old was charged with nine counts, including conspiracy and identity theft.
