Village in England hosts annual World Snail Racing Championships
NORFOLK, England (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - The English village of Norfolk turned slow-motion into a sport over the weekend, inviting snails from around the world to "slug" it out in the annual World Snail Racing Championships.
This year's slimy superstar was "Bilbo Sluggins," inching his way to victory. His handler, Shell Rowe, didn't own him. She rented the little racer for the competition.
"I asked the lady, 'Who do you think I should go for?' She said, 'The ones that are trying to make a breakout, maybe they're a good choice.' He was trying to escape so I thought, he's got a bit of fight in him. And clearly," Rowe shared.
Rowe took home a trophy stuffed with lettuce leaves, a victory snack fit for a champion.
