Lava spews from new eruption at Kilauea

(CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Kilauea began a new eruption episode on early Sunday morning, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed.

According to the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO), dome fountains and lava overflows began at the Halema'uma'u crater shortly after 4:00 a.m. Hawaii Standard Time

Footage from USGS livestreams show glowing lava spewing from the site of the eruption.

Weather forecasts for wind on Sunday "suggest that volcanic gas emissions and volcanic material may be distributed to the south and southwest," the HVO said.
