Calexico girls flag football team competes on national stage

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico girls flag football team was on the national stage, competing in an eight-team tournament against opponents from across the country.

The games took place over the course of the past four days and aired on ESPN.

The Calexico Cowboys made quick work of Ladera Ranch, California earlier in the week before defeating Lansdale, Pennsylvania on the final day's afternoon to stamp a trip to the finals.

A first-half touchdown from Calexico was called back due to a flag falling off the receiver's waist when the ball was caught. The Cowboys struggled to gain any offensive momentum following the blunder.

Despite some big plays, the girls could not prevail over Austin, Texas in the the championship round, falling by a score of 19-0.
