Zeke Moisey hosts wrestling event at Gila Ridge High School

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Zeke Moisey traveled to Gila Ridge High School to host a double-session instructive wrestling event on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Moisey, a former All-American wrestler at West Virginia University and University of Nebraska - Lincoln, passed along a bunch of knowledge and techniques, from different grappling styles, to useful defensive strategies.

"What I'm trying to get back to these guys is [to not] just go through the motions, talk yourself through it," Moisey said. "It's okay to talk out loud and be like 'Okay I really need to think about my head being here. It's in the wrong spot.' Making small goals for yourself, man."

The event cost $25 per person and saw a tremendous turnout from local high school level athletes.

Along with Moisey, Gila Ridge wrestling head coach Abel VillaMoreno was in attendance to help the young wrestlers perfect their craft.

"We just feel so privileged that, we get such a high level wrestler to come down, all the way to Yuma, and put on a show for our community," VillaMoreno shared.

The wrestling season does not start until the winter, but Moisey made it clear that the best wrestlers are the ones who work on their skills starting in the summer.

The Hawks have a recent track record to prove that the hard works pays off with Cannon Farrar (113 lbs.) and Kennedy Farrar (106 lbs.) winning the state championship in their respective weight classes last year.

The latter graduated in May and will continue wrestling on the collegiate level at Fort Hays State University, while the former will look to repeat as a state champion this winter.
