Triple-digit heat hangs on, but relief is slowly creeping In

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The worst of the heat may be behind us, but don't stash the sunscreen and water bottles just yet.

While temperatures have dipped slightly from Wednesday's record-breaking highs, Extreme Heat Warnings remain in effect for Yuma and Imperial Valley through Thursday evening. Highs are still flirting with 115 degrees in some spots.

Heading into the weekend, a slight cooldown is expected as high pressure shifts west, allowing daytime highs to settle into the 105 to 110 range. Still hot, but more manageable than the dangerous peak we've seen.

Wind gusts could hit 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon and early evening, increasing fire weather concerns especially in drier areas.

Early next week, models suggest a shift toward a more favorable pattern for moisture. If that holds, we could see a slight uptick in storm chances by mid-to-late week but until then, the dry and hot pattern continues.
