Diamondbacks blast past Padres with power surge in 8–2 Win

SAN DIEGO (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Diamondbacks leaned on the long ball once again Wednesday night, launching four home runs to overpower the San Diego Padres 8–2 at Petco Park.
It was a rough outing for Padres starter Dylan Cease, who gave up three of the homers including a fifth-inning grand slam by Geraldo Perdomo that put the game out of reach.
The blast was Arizona's ninth grand slam of the year and capped a three-inning stretch in which the D-backs hit all four of their home runs.
James McCann and Eugenio Suárez each went deep early, with Suárez sending a solo shot just over the left field wall despite a leaping effort by Bryce Johnson.
In the ninth, Corbin Carroll added one final exclamation mark with a solo homer of his own off Eduarniel Núñez.
Meanwhile, Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt delivered the best start of his career, going a season-long eight innings while allowing only four hits and two runs.
The Padres couldn't string together consistent offense, scoring just once in both the fifth and seventh innings. Gavin Sheets provided a brief spark with a towering solo homer, his 14th of the season.
Cease, now 3–9, took the loss after surrendering six earned runs across six innings. The Padres (49–43) will look to even the four-game series Thursday night behind Randy Vásquez, while Arizona (46–47) hands the ball to Eduardo Rodriguez.
Despite a promising start to the week, San Diego has now dropped two straight to a division rival a tough blow as they try to close the gap in a tightly packed National League West.
